2008 Scholarship Recipients
Congratulations to Danielle Brassington and Elizabeth Hughes, recipients of the 2008 NVGSA Scholarship awards. Not only were Liz and Dani key contributors to their teams, both of them stood out for their volunteer activities with the NVGSA, their involvement in school and community service activities, and their commitment to continuing their post secondary education.

Notice of Annual General Meeting
Please plan to attend the 2008 NVGSA AGM on June 26 at the Delbook Rec Centre. If you can not attend in person, please fill out a proxy and send it with someone who is attending to ensure we have quorum and can vote on the special resolution for the merger with West Vancouver.
Congratulations to playdown tournament champions - good luck at Provincials!
In the past three weeks the NVGSA hosted both our league playdowns and the Softball BC District 4 playdowns. Congratulations to the teams which emerged victorious and are now on their way to Provincial Championship tournaments across BC in July. Good luck!
NVGSA's New Scholarship Program
We have decided to change our scholarship program this year. Instead of giving out a number of small awards, we will be giving out two $500 scholarships. Any currently registered NVGSA player who is graduating from a North Shore secondary school this year is eligible to apply. Read more here on the selection criteria and how to apply.
Blue Stars Win Tswassen Tournament
The NVGSA Midget B rep team, the Blue Stars, won the gold medal at Tswassen's May 2, 2008 tournament.
The NVGSA Needs You!
We have quite a few positions open on the Executive for next season. If you are passionate about softball and committed to making a difference in the lives of our young athletes, please step up and volunteer. We also need volunteers (especially players) who would be interested in attending community events as NVGSA ambassadors to talk to people about softball, do demonstrations, and hand out brochures.
New Coaching Certification Requirements
Softball BC will require NCCP certification for coaches across more classifications (divisions) and categories (levels) for the 2008 season. Teams must have an NCCP-certified coach on the field when they attend district playdown and provincial tournaments.
Clinic Registration Is Open
Online registration is open for the Fall Pitching Clinic and the Winter Pitching Clinic. You now have the option of paying using your credit card.
Maniacs Win Silver at Summerland Tournament
The NVGSA Bantam C Maniacs travelled to Summerland for their Spring Tournament over the May 5-6, 2007 weekend, taking the silver medal in the playoffs.

Ray Hughes (Field Maintenance Manager) discusses the techniques you should use to remove water from the infield, and how to avoid creating a berm where the outfield grass starts which will trap more water in the infield and make the problem worse.

Learn To Play in 2007!
The NVGSA is piloting the Parmalat Learn To Play program from Softball Canada for our youngest athletes. Girls in the Blastball and Mini Mite divisions will enjoy the fun, action and skill development, and volunteer coaches will benefit from the lesson plans, drills and resources this innovative program provides.
NCCP Level III Coaching Course
Western Leisure Consultants Ltd. are offering the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Softball Level III Theory Course in North Vancouver (Feb & Mar, 2007) and at UBC (Nov & Dec, 2006).
