February 15, 2010 - Team Forming, Coaches & Managers Meetings, Coaching Clinic, Umpire Training, Opening Ceremonies, Meeting Minutes

Team Forming Starts March 1

Make sure you've paid your fees to ensure your request for a specific team is given priority.

Team forming requests are prioritized by payment date, not registration date.  Players registering or paying after Feb 28 will be included in the second round of team forming and may not receive their requested team mates.

If you have not yet registered, visit our Registration page at http://nsfastpitch.ca/registration for more information including fees, financial assistance, and our refund policy.

Coaches & Managers Meetings

All coaches and managers should plan to attend these meetings on March 24 & 25, 2010 to prepare for the season.

These meetings are important to review rules, schedules, league and playdown tournaments, insurance and Softball BC forms, hand out uniforms, and much more.

Coaching Clinic

Our first development clinic is a two-part Coaching Clinic on April 10, 2010.

Part 1 - Learn To Play
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Coaches, assistants and all interested parent helpers with girls in Blastball, Mini Mite and Mite will learn how to use the LTP lesson plans, drills and other resources to make their season a success.
Part 2 - Learn To Coach
12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
New and returning coaches will learn how to run a practise, warm-up exercises, correct softball mechanics (fielding, catching, batting, bunting), and skills drills.

There is no cost for NSGFA coaches, but you must pre-register.  Please contact Sue Hokanson (604-929-5052, headcoach@nsfastpitch.ca) to sign up or if you have any questions. Indicate whether you want to attend Part 1, Part 2, or both.

Stay tuned for more clinic announcements, and visit the Clinics page at http://nsfastpitch.ca/clinics for more information.

Umpire Training

All umpires both new and returning must attend a one-day training session tentatively scheduled for March 27.

Dave Wasyluk, our Umpire-In-Chief, will be contacting all those who expressed an interest in umpiring with more details.  We are always looking for more umpires; this is a paid position and is a great way to earn some money while filling a key role in our association.  Please contact Dave (604-928-1844, uic@nsfastpitch.ca) if you would like to sign up to be an umpire or if you have any questions.

Opening Ceremonies

All teams are invited to the official Opening Ceremonies on April 17, 2010 at McCartney Park.

Visiting dignitaries will include all three of the North Shore Mayors and a colour guard and piper for the parade of teams.  Activities will include team banner competitions, skills competitions, and the Ball Toss fundraiser.  Team photos will be taken on this day, we will have the concession open with lots of great food, and we are arranging an exhibition game between two senior teams for spectators to enjoy.

NOTE: Managers must submit their team's paperwork to their division Coordinator on this day, including Team Insurance (CASA) form, Softball BC Lifetime Membership forms (if applicable), Uniform form, and the Playdown Tournament Intent form (if applicable).

Contact your division Coordinator (see http://nsfastpitch.ca/executive) if you have any questions about the Opening Ceremonies.
